ROC Animal Training and Behavior

Jessi began her career in veterinary medicine in 2007. She worked in several emergency medicine and day practice facilities. She graduated from Oklahoma State University - OKC in 2010, receiving her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology. She is also a nationally and state licensed Registered Veterinary Technician. Working in the veterinary medical field piqued her interest in human and animal behavior. She saw how anxious and fearful some of the patients were and wanted to find a way to decrease that anxiety. She noticed that while everyone loves their dogs, bad behavior can make it hard to connect and form solid relationships between them. She began researching the topic and found that prevention can be the key to preventing unwanted behaviors. In 2011, she started teaching Puppy Pre-K and Basic Obedience classes. To further her education, Jessi attended the Karen Pryor Academy of Animal Training and Behavior and graduated as a Certified Training Partner in 2014. Jessi's passion is to encourage and strengthen the human-animal bond. She is a current member of the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians, Association of Pet Dog Trainers and International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. She is also a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Jessi continues to learn and grow her knowledge base by attending continuing education classes, seminars and conferences. Jessi enjoys competing with her dogs in Agility, Barn Hunt, Lure coursing, Dock diving, Antler Shed hunting and Trick Dog. She currently has two dogs, Colt a Doberman and Chaos her Australian Shepherd puppy. When not training dogs, Jessi can be found anywhere outdoors with her family - husband Jordan, son Jackson, daughter Cheyenne, and stepdaughter Izzy. The entire family loves to be outdoors and on the water. Izzy loves having the big dogs to "boss" around and helps with setting up classes. Izzy joins Jessi at sport trials and runs Colt in fun runs for agility and lure coursing. Jackson and Cheyenne are still little, but love being around their animals. Jackson's first word was Colt! Why ROC Animal Training? ROC stands for "Right On Click". Jessi loves clicker training and the fun that people and dogs have doing it together. Clicker training falls in line with her training philosophy - she wants training to be fun for both animal and human, yet effective in real life situations. Jett Roc was Jessi's soul dog. He was with her from the start of her business and attended the Karen Pryor Training Academy with Jessi. Jett was always eager to learn and fearlessly push boundaries with Jessi. He is her shining example of how successes, mistakes and perseverance form a bound of trust and love between human and animal, which in turn produces a great trainer. Jett Roc passed away in January 2020 at 10 years of age. He leaves behind an incredible legacy.

Courtney is a partner trainer with ROC Animal Training and is our Puppy Expert. She teaches the Puppy Start Right Preschool class and will be taking on some behavior modification clients as well. Courtney’s passion for animals started early in life. When not in school, you would most likely find her working and playing with animals. Her start with animal training began in high school when she had a small business training trail horses with her grandfather. After high school, she worked for an equine vet and as a receptionist at a wildlife rehabilitator and small animal practice. She is a Certified Trick Dog Instructor, Canine Good Citizen evaluator, Farm Dog evaluator, and Puppy Start Right Instructor. She has completed many different courses thru the Fenzi Pet Professionals programs as well as several Karen Pryor comprehensive courses. She is passionate about staying up to date with the latest science on animal behavior and training. Courtney is almost always enrolled in a course or workshop furthering her education. Courtney is a mom to three beautiful kids who are 8, 5 and 4 yrs. old. She has 3 dogs - her oldest Ajax, a Weimaraner, and 2 German Shepherds, Mischa and Larka. She also has 2 horses and various other small farm animals. Her hobbies include family camping and hiking trips, riding horses, and competing in various dog sports with her pups. Courtney loves finding ways to help dogs and their owners bond through doing fun activities together, be it sports, hiking, boating, or playing fun games at home. She took a special interest in genetics and behavior while raising and working with her oldest German Shepherd who suffers from severe anxiety. Learning how much of a role genetics plays in the physical and mental health of a dog started her down a path of pursuing her own breeding program. She knows first-hand the impact that early socialization and training can have on puppies and their owner’s relationships and wants to help as many puppies and their families as she possibly can get started off on the right track together.​

Tierney is a trainer with ROC Animal Training and is a certified Drink With Your Dog class instructor. She teaches the Brewery Manners course. Tierney’s passion for dogs started with her first rescue dog Zane who she adopted while she was in graduate school. Zane is now almost 12 years old and her love for him helped shape her view on the bond we have with our dogs. She loved working with him and teaching him new things. Her passion for dogs and for training grew as she began fostering and volunteering with a local rescue. She has had over 75 different foster dogs and learned a lot from training and teaching them to prepare them for success in their future forever home. With her own personal rescue dogs, she is passionate about working on building their confidence, teaching them new tricks, and training with them in different dog sports. Her dog’s personalities range from overly enthusiastic to fearful and shy. She has learned to adjust her training to each of their personalities. One of Tierney’s other passions has always been local breweries. Tierney has been to over 100 unique breweries and one of her dogs has been to 20 of these breweries with her. The Brewery Manners class is therefore a perfect match for her. When Tierney is not home with her dogs, she is working as a professor at a local university. Her passion for teaching and research has easily translated to training. Tierney is almost always enrolled in a course, conference, or workshop furthering her canine education. She never stops teaching her dogs new things and is always learning from her own dogs. She hopes in her career as a trainer that she will help improve the love, understanding, and bond people have with their own dogs so that they can feel both as passionate and compassionate about their dog as she does about her own.
